Not really a horror movie, more of the exploitation genre. These were popular in the 1970s grindhouse scene before women got all liberated and shit. No more Suzy homemakers of the 1950s. I don’t really care about the feminist movement cause I’m not a female; I have a ball sack. Women can always wrap you around their pinky finger by with holding sex or nagging you into a slave. This has it’s consequences but I digress.
Big Doll House is a women in prison movie, W.I.P., as they are affectionally termed.
What I was most surprised about BDH is how beautiful the lead girls were. Even the warden and her Hugo Weaving doppelganger head guard are all eye candy.
I was also over joyed to see Sid Haig play the fruit and contraband vender to the lovely prison sweeties.
A young and thin Sid Haig, still a great actor and hilarious. He owned the camera even with his pock marked acne scared mug. It was before he had grey hair, he even had hair, though he was loosing it.
It also stars Pam Grier and her name in the movie is Grier, kinda weird.
We get all the traditional WIP scenarios.
A sadistic warden who enjoys torturing the babes.
Guards on the take.
Hair pulling cat fights that end up in the mud.
Shower scenes, sorry fellas no bush in this one, just lots of juicy melons on the fruit cart, kidding, and of course natural boobies in the showers complete with attentive pencil eraser nipples.
Some pithy erotica, but no lesbian sex.
Scanty clade chicks blasting machine guns in a shoot out with female and a few male guards.
Not any gore, just a shank in someones neck.
The Acting was decent. Except for Sid Haig, did someone say Oscar.
The movie looked good, well lit, good production value and directing.
It’s a classic all the way, hot girls, and Sid Haig make this highly watchable.
On the other side of the coin, it didn’t push the boundaries of WIP movies like others have. It’s not what I would consider a hardcore and tasteless WIP flick. My spider sense was telling me Doll House was trying to be silly. If I was in a prison this clean with these babes I wouldn’t want to leave. They even had Heroin!
