American Horror Story review by Sinderella

If I had to choose my number one favorite TV show of this generation it would be hands down, without the shadow of a doubt, American Horror Story. I wrote an article about my opinion of American Horror story. But, that was how I felt about AHS compared to another show. So it wasn’t a true solo review of American Horror Story and it’s three seasons.

I recently watched all of season two and I am all caught up one season three, so now I have decided to review the show as a whole. This is on three seasons up to this point.

Season one:

Whenever a new show or movie comes out we hear things like  “original, breathtaking,” “four stars” says random critic from random source. You can’t take these things for gospel, can you?

Season one (Murder House) was something special because it actually was “original; smart and witty,” yet so much more than that.  This show went above and beyond. It was a thought provoking mystery while being horror at the same time. It had twists and turns, it made you love and hate the same character in the same episode. Not to mention it was sexy in a classy yet some how kinky way. Season one was a breath of fresh air. It had been too long since a real horror show had been so well done. I loved that I got a little piece of the haunted house’s disturbing history at the beginning of every episode. This made Murder House more interesting and much more beautiful. I love history and period pieces. There was no denying I loved this aspect of the show. For this and so many more reasons…

I give it five brain stabs 5/5

Season Two:

I binge watched this season just last week due to being unable to catch it when it was airing. I thought it was really great. I truly enjoyed it. However there was some really big aspects of Asylum that I didn’t like and understand point of them including them. The alien creatures and the human experiment subplots were weak. I don’t know what they were thinking. These subplots made the season seem messy and confusing as to what the story wanted to say. I don’t see the point of either and both felt like a waste of an idea. The Asylum, mixed with the nuns and the Satan possession was strong enough to carry the season if you ask me. The serial killing psychologist worked well, it was a nice twist, it advanced the story and answered a question we had had since the beginning about Kit’s character but the Aliens and human experiments felt out of place and honestly forced in just for the hell of it. I will say that out of the two subplots, the human experiments fit a little better with the story. Still, it was kind of stupid. The writers or producers should have used these stories on their own, in seasons to come; now both are wasted forever. I believe they were just excited at their success, being picked up for another season. Hence, they started throwing awesome ideas out there and tried to tie up loose ends later. Unfortunately it didn’t tie up very neatly. Other than that the rest of the stories were, as expected, very interesting and still better than The Walking Dead ☺

Oh, also the musical number made me laugh and filled me with great joy.

I give it a 3/5 Brain stabs

Season Three:

I watched Coven every week. In my book, it’s tied for the “best season champion” with Murder House. I love the third season. I like the witches and the voodoo priestess war. The subplots are now fitting in with the big picture (a relief after season two). This season has a girl power feel to it and it’s still smart. This makes me happy as a proud owner of lady parts. Most shows with mostly women characters are dumbed down and superficial. That’s a disgraceful portrayal of how women really work. I don’t know how the male fans feel about this season but I’d love to hear a their perspective. Another nice touch in the story is the Salem tie in. I expected that, so it was great to see it executed so well. I’m still watching this season unfold but with the way things are going I do believe I will continue to adore it. I am confident in saying…

5/5 brain stabs.

The Walking Dead vs. American Horror Story by Sin Derella

Walking Dead vs. American Horror story:

Today I am going to give my personal opinion about how these shows stack up against each other. I do this with the understanding that there will probably be more than a few of you whom will disagree with this opinion, but if I cared, I wouldn’t be writing this! So we go, both opponents are in their corners gloves on and begging for the sweet taste of blood.

The Walking Dead:

The first season of this show was tits out awesome. None stop zombie action and great (for the most part) characters. It felt so good to see a show based on the Z-pox and knowing that next week we were going to be seeing this story advance and the plot thicken and when the show ended I along with every other human pined for the return. The following year we got that return and here is where a lot of people felt kind of ripped off. There was not as much jam packed action and gore as the first season leaving many with a bad taste in their mouth. Additionally Laurie became more of an annoyance than anyone wanted to deal with. Still I still very much enjoyed season 2. It was nice to see Glen get the respect he deserved and I really liked when Shane died, I hated Shane…HATED SHANE.

                                     What’s not to like?

The finally of the second season promised us that season three would be just as great as the first two. Now I will admit that I have not seen all of season 3 yet, but there is a reason. I have had the opportunity to watch the third season and I just cannot get into it.  The magic is gone for me. I don’t know if this is due to the fact that over the past few years we have been experiencing a Z-pox over dose or if it is how annoying most of the characters are but I just can’t seem to get into it. I know all the highlights and I can say that it seems pretty good but all and all I am just very much over it. It makes me sad truthfully. I WANT to still have that excitement in my heart, I want to still have the interest in this once amazing show but I am just plan worn out of it. I have never like soap operas and just because you throw zombies around doesn’t mean I’ll like it anymore and that is what this show has become. I watched the first episode and was pretty disappointed and a big disappointment is that in the trailer for the new season they showed action packed scenes and they did not deliver this. I am glad that they FINALLY KILLED ANDREA

So crucify me now, but The Walking Dead gets a 3 out of 5 brain stabs for me.

American Horror Story:

EN_US_1280x720_70210884_American-Horror-Story

I loved this show from the very first episode just as I did with The Walking Dead. Even then however I liked this show more. The characters are interesting even the small and obscure characters and this show honestly scares the shit out of me. I love the way in the first season they always showed a history in the murder house. Those scenes we so well done, words just couldn’t justify. Every scene brought the picture a little clearer and it was really satisfying for me. I couldn’t believe the disturbing shit I was witnessing and I wanted more and this show never disappointed me. There was drama but not so much that it bores you and these characters actually try to resolves their issues, unlike Laurie. It is worth noting that I do like ghost stories more than zombies and the sexuality in American Horror Story got me pretty interested as well. This show was hot.  When I first heard that they were making this show an anthology series I was a bit taken back by it as I knew they would be using a good amount of the characters from Murder House in Asylum, but I got over it pretty fast. Sadly due to lack of cable I have not had the chance to watch that season. I have however watched the first two episodes of the third season Coven and I am really in love once again from the beginning. I like this anthology idea; it keeps the characters fresh and the actors on their toes.  That is why in my opinion American Horror Story wins. If a character does end up annoying me (and I have a feeling Emma Roberts character will be that one) I can take comfort in knowing that next season I will not have to deal with that character and their same whinny stupid bullshit. Also because this is an anthology show the fact that I haven’t got to see season two has no bearing on my enjoying season three as it is a completely different story all together. This show is just better done and better written than The Walking Dead and for that it gets a 4 out of 5 brain stabs, the only reason being I missed season two and season three has only just began.

High School of the Dead review by Ashley Sin Derella

High School Of The Dead-Review.highschooldead_353x248

Like Zombies? Like Anime? They have bread and the results are killer! You do not have to be an anime enthusiast to enjoy this series created by Daisuke Sato. It has all the thrill, chills, and blood spills one would expect from a zombie t.v show with the added bonus of a thoughtful and exciting story line that makes this show positively addicting. This story follows a group of bad ass high school students who must defend themselves from the undead after the pandemic hit during a seemingly normal day.

It wasn’t even half way through the first episode and I had already fallen in love with this show. Our characters are wise beyond their years and maturing rapidly due to their new terrifying situation. Yet underneath it all they are still, just a bunch of kids. It’s remarkable really. This show really reflects how a state of emergency can really change someone. We expect an adult would have a better chance than a 15 year old child, but these kids become adults and heroes almost immediately. Saving each other and strangers whenever feasible. I truly admire these characters for their bravery and empathy in the dark and dangerous times that is the zombie apocalypse.

It’s not just how heroic the characters are that makes me love them; they are also quite quick with the witty and hilarious dialogue. You cannot help but laugh out loud at this show. The characters are, after all children, so they will make immature stabs at each other and bicker almost like brothers and sisters. There is a love-hate atmosphere between the characters and the delivery of the script is well done (Even in the English dubbed version) you feel the playfulness as if these were your own jack ass friends giving you a hard time.

If it’s not the humorous dialog, it’s the way the show seems to have to make a “boing” noise at ever jiggle of a boob or bottom. This show is up there with the likes of Shaun of The Dead in zombie comedies. Be advised this show does have strong sexual innuendo. They never show nipples or genitals and the sexual scenarios are far more hilarious than sexy, but this is not a show to watch with your kids…or overly religious people…

The last and most amazing aspect of this show is the combat. This show does take place in Japan after all, so all of our main characters are great with weapons. Those who weren’t so great at first quickly become skilled masters. The combat is beautiful and coming from someone who isn’t big on action, that is saying something. The combat almost reflects a ballet, a gorgeously executed ballet. It almost seems like our characters had been training for this their whole lives. (One character had been trained in combat her whole life, but the rest had not) There is a certain passion in the combat here and it is apparent that these kids actually enjoy what they are doing, for more than just saving themselves.

This incredible show out ranks The Walking Dead in my book, and is an absolute must see. This show has ever thing you want in a zombie apocalypse story but please God, do not take my word for it. You owe it to yourself to see it as soon as possible. You can find this gem anywhere on the internet, English dubbed or subtitled. 5 out of 5 brain stabs.
